Travel Team Program at Westcoast

Westcoast Softball encourages its athletes to participate in tournament play in the United States in the off season.

This exciting opportunity enables our athletes to improve their softball skills over the winter and provides exposure to U.S. post secondary coaches and recruiters who regularly attend these tournaments to assess young players.

The number of travel opportunities depends upon tournament schedules, availability of coaches and player interest.

Participation in our travel program is offered to Westcoast members on a first come basis. Regular team practices are held at the Academy for these teams. The cost of participation varies from tournament to tournament. Factors include entry fees, travel costs, accommodation, and food costs.

Athletes traveling on a Westcoast Select team must be accompanied by a responsible parent, or another adult designated by a parent. The coaches attend these tournaments to coach, not chaperone, the athletes.

In the spring of 2004 two Westcoast travel teams attended a tournament in Florida. In October 2004 four teams travelled to Las Vegas. The competition was tough, but fun, and the Westcoast teams fared very well against some skilled American teams. The 89 squad finished second and the 90 squad finished third out of a pool of 22 teams.

Kim Wright confirms that six teams have been formed to travel to Florida from February 16 to 21, 2005 . These team rosters are full. Good luck to the 88/89, 89, 90, 90/91, 91, and 92 Westcoast Selects!
